Cheri Aldrich biography:

The urge to create has always been a large part of my life. I am a self taught, intuitive multimedia artist. I am currently doing jewelry, paper arts, kelp and other basket forms, gourds, wire work and felting. Experimenting with a variety of techniques and learning to use new tools provides a great base of knowledge that I call on constantly in my art. Because of this varied background, my most recent work has led to a mixed media approach to my art, including my jewelry.

My earrings have always been my first love and they are ever evolving. Currently, I am using wire work, embossed and patinated copper and brass, feathers, paper and a polymer print reduction method to make the components I use in these one-of-a-kind pieces.

Themes of nature and a love of rich textures are continuing threads in my art. I walk and collect in the woods and fields, the mountains and streams and along the beaches of my home in Newport, Oregon. Bringing home an intriguing assortment of scavenged items, I then jump in and start creating. It feels like the piece is telling me what to do and I am just along for the ride! Local kelp is used in my baskets and rattles. Wall pieces of natural women incorporate sticks, moss feathers, and handmade clay faces, while my crows and ravens are hand sculpted, fired and painted clay.

My work is shown at the 9th Street Gallery and Toujours Boutique in Newport and Touchstone Gallery and Fireside Gallery in Yachats. I do local art shows and studio shows in my home and see people by appointment in my Newport home. I can be reached at 541-265-5456 or by email at: Cherisgallery@earthlink.net.
