Education
Becky majored in Advertising Design at Pacific Union College in Angwin, California, where she studied painting and drawing under Roger Blum, and design, composition and art history under John Carstens. She also studied the human figure extensively for several years at Hipbone Studios in Portland, Oregon under Jeff Burke. She has additionally been mentored by her mother-in-law, well-known Western artist Vel Miller, and by Toledo artist, Douglas Haga.
Experience
Becky has been obsessed with art for as long as she can remember, and began drawing “when she was old enough to hold a pencil,” according to her mother. She has shown her paintings and drawings in several galleries in California and Oregon. Over the past twenty years, in addition to creating her own fine art work, she has created several commissioned works of art, a large wall mural, numerous graphic design projects, and many book and cover illustrations. She now works full-time in her studio located within Skybound Art Gallery, where she also shows her work. Recently, Becky entered four of her paintings in the 2010 Celebrate Arts show in Florence. All four pieces won awards, including three Merit Awards and one Honorable Mention.
Statement of Purpose
Becky’s goal as an artist is to inspire in the viewer a deeper appreciation and respect for all living things. In her personal quest to call attention to the beauty to be found in everyday subject matter, Becky particularly enjoys producing artwork that incorporates non-traditional subject matter or angles of view. Her current work focuses on images of local farm animals, wildlife, kelp, tidepools, and local landscapes, emphasizing the underlying organic abstract design and movement.
Her artwork includes oil paintings, pen & ink drawings, both black & white and watercolor paintings, and watercolor and pen & ink combination paintings.
