Lincoln County Cultural Coalition Announces Grant Recipients

The Lincoln County Cultural Coalition announces its grant recipients for 2009-2010. In alpha order, the following Lincoln County organizations were funded:
• Newport High School – $965 – “to provide three instructors, Tiana Tucker (English), Nina Fairfield (English) and Samantha Murphy (Social Studies) to implement art instruction into a unit in each of their classrooms. Tucker and Fairfield will do this when teaching their Asian Literature unit to Juniors. Murphy will do so when teaching her Renaissance and Reformation unit to seniors in Global Studies.”
• Newport Public Library Foundation – $1,000 – “to provide funds for Newport Reads to help pay for the costs associated with bringing an author to Newport, programming, printing and publicity costs.”
• Newport Symphony Orchestra – $1,000 – “to support our local youth orchestra by providing an opportunity for Lincoln County music students to experience performing in an orchestral ensemble with the Oregon Pro Arte Youth Chamber Orchestra at the Newport Performing Arts Center.”
• Oregon Coast Chamber Orchestra – $850 – “to support the education of ‘Music of Latin America’ to students from Waldport schools via complimentary tickets to an OCCO Yachats concert, with educational support from local music educator, Mary Cook, in the form of classroom discussions.”
• Oregon Coast Children’s Theatre – $1,000 – “to support the 20th anniversary marketing and information campaign, in order to diversify outreach for new partnerships, solicit private donations, and build more local and regional interest in the mission.”
• Oregon Coast Community College Foundation – $1,000 – “to help fund the purchase of two new Yamaha upright pianos for music education at the new Central County Campus in Newport.”
• Writers on the Edge – $750 –“to supplement the normal featured author honorariums for writers who travel long distances to appear at the monthly Nye Beach Writer’s Series.”
