Cultural Coalition Offers Lincoln County Nonprofit Grant Workshops

March 16, 2010

“Learn By Doing”: Two Grant Writing Workshop Series for Lincoln County Nonprofit Organizations sponsored by the Lincoln County Cultural Coalition, part of Oregon Cultural Trust, with support and assistance from the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts and generous support from The Ford Institute.

These four-session workshop series are meant to build on each other with class assignments in between each session. There will be one-on-one help and peer mentoring.

Series A: “New to Nonprofit Grant Writing”. The first session is March 19th at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Session 2 is on April 23rd at the Siletz Library. Session 3 is on May 26th at the Yachats Commons, and Session 4 is on June 23rd at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Each session runs from 1-5 pm and builds upon the previous session.

Series A workshops are designed to help beginning local grant writers, working with nonprofit organizations, to plan, write and successfully attain funding for projects and programs from local funding sources. At the end of the four-sessions participants will (1) know about local grant resources, (2) better understand the grant planning process and (3) have written at least one successful grant proposal.

Participants will actively work on planning and proposal writing elements during each session. Please bring proposals that your organization is currently working on or ideas for proposals that you’d like to start.

Series B: “Intermediate Grant Seeking Strategies and Practice”. The first session is March 18th at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Session 2 is on April 22rd at the Siletz Library. Session 3 is on May 27th at the Yachats Commons, and Session 4 is on June 24th at the Lincoln City Cultural Center. Each session will run from 1-5 pm and builds upon the previous session.

Series B workshops are designed to help intermediate local grant writers, working with nonprofit organizations, to (1) increase grant writing capacity (2) to share resources, and (3) to discuss collaborative grant proposals.

Participants will actively work on planning and proposal writing elements during each session. Please bring proposals that your organization is currently working on or ideas for proposals that you’d like to start.

The workshop sessions will be facilitated by Meredith Howell, a grant writer and nonprofit consultant. Meredith has assisted small and mid-size non profits and schools across Oregon to build sustainable programming and help match funding resources to program ideas.

Organizations are encouraged to bring more than one board member, staff or volunteer from each organization. A minimal $10.00 fee per participant, per session is requested. Pre-registration is encouraged; each session will be limited to twenty- four participants.

For best results, attend all four sessions within a series because each session builds upon the previous session.

Please call the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts, 541-265-2787 to register.
